Dilution Ratio Calculation Formula

The formula for dilution calculations is:

C₁V₁ = C₂V₂

Where:

  • C₁ = Initial concentration
  • V₁ = Initial volume
  • C₂ = Final concentration
  • V₂ = Final volume

You have a 20% concentrated solution and need to prepare 500ml of a 4% solution.

Using the formula:

  • 20% × V₁ = 4% × 500ml
  • V₁ = (4% × 500ml) ÷ 20%
  • V₁ = 100ml of concentrate

You would use 100ml of the 20% solution and add 400ml of water to achieve the desired 4% concentration in a total volume of 500ml.

  • Required ratio: 1:5
  • Final volume needed: 500µl
  • Calculation: 500µl ÷ 5 = 100µl blood sample
  • Add 400µl buffer solution

  • Final volume needed: 20 liters
  • Calculation: 20000ml ÷ 100 = 200ml fertilizer
  • Add 19800ml water
