How to Calculate Cold Brew Ratio
To calculate the cold brew ratio, determine your desired brew strength. For regular strength, multiply coffee weight by 16, for strong brew multiply by 12, and for concentrate multiply by 8. This gives you the required water amount. Adjust measurements based on your preferred units of weight and volume.
- Inputs: Coffee grounds = 80g, Strength = Strong (1:12)
- Calculations: 80g × 12 = 960ml water
- Result: Mix 80g coffee with 960ml water
Cold Brew Ratio Formula
Water Amount = Coffee Weight × Ratio Multiplier
Regular Strength = 1:16 (multiply by 16)
Strong Brew = 1:12 (multiply by 12)
Concentrate = 1:8 (multiply by 8)
Extra Strong = 1:4 (multiply by 4)
Regular Strength Brew
- Inputs: Coffee = 100g, Ratio = 1:16
- Calculations: 100g × 16 = 1600ml
- Result: 1600ml water needed
Strong Cold Brew
- Inputs: Coffee = 75g, Ratio = 1:12
- Calculations: 75g × 12 = 900ml
- Result: 900ml water needed
Concentrate Recipe
- Inputs: Coffee = 150g, Ratio = 1:8
- Calculations: 150g × 8 = 1200ml
- Result: 1200ml water needed
Small Batch Brew
- Inputs: Coffee = 50g, Ratio = 1:16
- Calculations: 50g × 16 = 800ml
- Result: 800ml water needed
Extra Strong Concentrate
- Inputs: Coffee = 200g, Ratio = 1:4
- Calculations: 200g × 4 = 800ml
- Result: 800ml water needed
What is Cold Brew Ratio?
Cold Brew Ratio is the relationship between coffee grounds and water used in cold brew coffee preparation. The ratio determines the brew’s strength, with standard ratios ranging from 1:4 (extra strong concentrate) to 1:16 (regular strength).
Standard Ratios:
Regular Strength = 1:16 (1g coffee : 16ml water)
Strong Brew = 1:12 (1g coffee : 12ml water)
Concentrate = 1:8 (1g coffee : 8ml water)
