How to Convert HP to CC
To convert horsepower to CCs, multiply the HP by conversion factor based on engine type. For gas engines, multiply HP by 16.38 for the approximate CC value. For diesel engines, use a factor of 14.75 due to different compression ratios and efficiency factors.
Motorcycle Engine Example:
- Inputs: Power = 100 HP, Type = Gas engine
- Calculations: 100 × 16.38 = 1,638 CC
- Result: 1,638 CC engine displacement
HP to CC Conversion Formula
For Gas Engines:
CC = HP × 16.38
For Diesel Engines:
CC = HP × 14.75
Where:
HP = Engine horsepower
CC = Engine displacement in cubic centimeters
Small Car Engine
- Inputs: Power = 85 HP, Type = Gas
- Calculations: 85 × 16.38 = 1,392.3
- Result: 1,392 CC
Large Truck Engine
- Inputs: Power = 300 HP, Type = Diesel
- Calculations: 300 × 14.75 = 4,425
- Result: 4,425 CC
Sports Car Engine
- Inputs: Power = 250 HP, Type = Gas
- Calculations: 250 × 16.38 = 4,095
- Result: 4,095 CC
High-Performance Bike
- Inputs: Power = 180 HP, Type = Gas
- Calculations: 180 × 16.38 = 2,948.4
- Result: 2,948 CC
Commercial Van Engine
- Inputs: Power = 140 HP, Type = Diesel
- Calculations: 140 × 14.75 = 2,065
- Result: 2,065 CC
What is HP and CC?
Horsepower (HP): A unit of power that measures the rate at which work is done. In engines, it indicates the maximum power output capability.
1 HP = 745.7 watts = 33,000 ft-lb/minute
Cubic Centimeters (CC): A measurement of engine displacement, representing the total volume of all cylinders in an engine’s combustion chambers.
1 CC = 1 cm³ = 0.061 cubic inches
